Part One (55 minutes) contains archive Standard 8 colour cine film, with some colour slides and caption pages. It is presented without a narration or soundtrack. It features Reseau Breton 4-6-0T & Mallets, P.O.Correze Mallet, Vivarais Mallet, SNCF 241P, 231D, 231K, 231G, 231E, 141P, 242TA, 141R, 141TC, 141TB & CFTA 130B. Part Two (25 minutes) includes archive colour slides, with caption pages, plus sound recordings of SNCF 141R & 141TC locos in 1969. Many British railway enthusiasts waited until the end of steam on British Railways before venturing abroad. Mike Hudson was different, he made his first trip to see the continental railways in 1961. From 1963 onwards Mike carried his trusty Bolex cine camera. It is from Mike's fascinating archive of both colour cine and colour slides, that this programme has been made. French Railways probably operated more mainline compound locos, than any other railway in Europe. Two of the most impressive classes were the massive 241P and the smaller but efficient 141P. None of the 318 engines in the 141P class survived into preservation, but happily Mike Hudson captured them in regular service at Argentan. He also filmed a number of 241Ps in action. France had some of the most scenic narrow gauge lines ever built in Europe. Mike filmed on the Reseau Breton, the P.O.Correze and the Reseau Vivarais all before the preservation era.
