After a 35 year gap since living in California in the early 1960’s,
British film maker John McIvor returned to the US in 1997 for
the first of several trips ‘across the pond’, concentrating on steam
railroading. Whilst not claiming to be a complete survey of
American steam, this programme nevertheless covers a wide
variety of locomotives filmed during the subsequent twenty years.
The vast majority of footage includes action sequences and locomotive cab visits. Some restoration projects are covered such as the C&O #1309 on the Western Maryland, the Reading #2100 in Cleveland and the Santa Fe #2926 in Albuquerque. Finally a few of the most famous locomotives on static display complete the list.
Over the 20 years of filming, a variety of photographic equipment has been used from Hi8, digital video, full high definition and even miniature GoPro camcorders. Where required, earlier 4:3 original footage has been remastered to widescreen 16:9 format video.

Full of steam locomotive information, must have taken hours of editing. A nice, informative video with clear, crisp runpasts. JB, Ohio

Full of praise for your programme, both for the quality of the filming and the excellent editing ... a job very well done. RB, from the UK
My, you must of done a lot of hours spent of editing all those films! I'll be sure and spread the word about this great DVD that you produced! I think I rode at least 10 of those trains in my lifetime. Love the memories and the wonderful scenery. Excellent DVD = AAA++++ FH, US
